The trumpet is a high pitched brass instrument with a brillant sound that can project through the band or orchestra. The player uses buzzing and the valves to change the pitch. First trumpets often play the melody. Second and third trumpets play the harmony. The trumpet requires plenty of air directed through a small aperture and buzz.

You can listen to the trumpet here.  You can learn more about the history of the trumpet here.

Trumpet lessons begin with learning how to buzz on the lips alone and then on the mouthpiece. Next, students learn how to buzz melodies on the mouthpiece. Then, students will learn how to play the entire trumpet. The first notes we will learn will be C, D, E, and possibly G. From there, the student will be able to learn "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb." Our next step is to learn how to read music.
